Well, we've finally made it through the latest set of tapings. It's been an interesting ride to say the least. Luckily I think I speak for the majority of fans when I say I'm very anxious to see what's next. Several storylines are reaching their peak, which is exactly what should be happening. So before we get to next Thursday, let's take a look at the latest episode.
#5 - Wha- uh, who was that?
The mixed tag match fell flat and short to me. Like several items tonight, it seemed like the post-match happening ended up being better or more exciting than the match itself. Kongo Kong debuted and totally destroyed Braxton Sutter. I've never seen this dude in the ring before, so I was quite... surprised by his look. He is menacing, don't get me wrong. Needless to say, I'll need to see more of him before I can fully judge. I'm also wondering if those four (Kong, KM, Sienna & Laurel) are going to be somewhat of a faction going forward?
#4 - Will EC3 get his edge back?
I absolutely dreaded seeing Bruce Prichard coming out to the ring to announce James Storm as the number one contender. Simply put - it lacked logic in my eyes. Whatever, right. EC3 comes out and things start to pick up. I really enjoyed the way EC3 came off as the guy who's proven himself in the previous era, but he hasn't had the best of luck in front of the new authority. Bruce actually made sense in this segment by basically riling Ethan up, to get that fire out of him. I'm not sure if this will lead to a heel turn, but I certainly would like to see EC3 become the unstoppable guy we've known to come in the last three years.
#3 - Everett's chase continues
While I wasn't that big of a fan of this particular X-Division match, I'm still very happy about the story that has been developing. The inclusion of Helms was cool, although a singles match should happen before Everett gets his title match. Honestly I've never even seen any ring work from GSH, so I'm actually kind of interested in seeing if he really is any good, ha. The post-match attack was executed to perfection, as was Everett's awesome counter on the champ. This is one of the most anticipated matches in Impact for me right now.
#2 - Magnus returns, Josh is forced out
To be honest, I wasn't really into the main event match until the pace picked up in the closing minutes. I enjoyed seeing Matt Morgan and Magnus back in the ring and kicking butt for JB. Magnus delivering the final elbow drop was a nice touch and I'm hoping it leads to some kind of reward for him. Luckily for us, it looks like Josh is off the announce booth, but I still have a bad feeling that he'll still be present in a really annoying way.
#1 - Santana Garrett!
The highlight for me, as well as several other Meccanites, was the return of Santana Garrett. It was quite the pleasant surprise to see her enter as Rosemary's opponent. While we all knew Santana would go under, that didn't take away from the excitement at all. These talented Knockouts made the most of their five minutes and stole the show, in my opinion. Here's to more Santana and more awesome work from Rosemary!
Upon finishing the main event, I wasn't left with a great feeling about the show even though Josh's team lost. After some reflecting (which is why I took a little bit more time on this), I came to appreciate the way several storylines have played out at this point since the re-boot. Next week will serve as another pivotal step, and I'm anticipating some more game-changing developments. Until then!
