Impact started off hot like the last couple of weeks, but I have to admit I was a tad bit disappointed as the show went on. I know not every episode will be the same, or even comparable to the previous episodes of this "new era." With that being said, be aware that I'm simply going to address topics this time around as I'm not necessarily ranking them per se. Let's go!
#5 - ODB vs. Rebel
Going into the match, I wasn't expecting anything spectacular as far as their ring work from what I have previously seen from them. Seeing familiar faces return was nice and all, but this was a train wreck to me. Doing the kissing shtick with Earl Hebner is something that should stay in the past, especially if we are trying to make Impact great again! How about we get Madison Rayne or Angelina Love back in the ring?
#4 - "She" ends the show on a lackluster note
"She" is Karen Jarrett. Oh boy. It wasn't too hard to figure out. So the crowd decides to chant "Thank You Karen." Which makes me question - what did she do? Without doing research and just based solely off what I know about the company's history... Karen hasn't done squat, right? Anyways, I was thoroughly pleased to see EC3 interrupt her and turn this into an anti-establishment angle. And then Josh had to open his mouth and get slapped. Then the show ends.
The last two episodes did a great job of leaving us with a bit of a cliff-hanger. This week, however, was a different story. Josh gets slapped and pouts about it. Okay? I SO want to see what's next for this nail-biting storyline... not.
#3 - Reno Scum upsets Decay
Reno Scum's gimmick is catching on with the crowd quickly, which is great. These teams worked a very solid match. Going in, I figured Decay would go over, but the creative team had other plans. Rosemary spraying Steve is actually great story-telling for a couple reasons. 1) It teases dissension after Decay has dominated for the last year. And 2) It allows Reno Scum to gain needed momentum ahead of the big Tag Title match next week. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing how that match unfolds.
#2 - Davey Richards returns to action
Davey vs. Suicide was the perfect match to kick off the show as it had somewhat of an X-Division style to it. We were definitely due for a Davey appearance, and I was a little sad we didn't see anything out of Eddie Edwards tonight. I'm a fan of Davey & Angelina as an on-air couple so I look forward to seeing more from them.
#1 - LAX overcomes DCC
LAX had their own unique entrance from the "back" of the arena. They all looked like legit bad-asses! DCC still should've been the massive force to be reckoned with, but now LAX has taken their spot. It is what it is. This ended up being the best match of the night, I thought. That surprised me for some reason, mainly because I didn't know what Santana and Ortiz could do. DCC continues to break down and that's honestly what should happen at this point.
While I didn't go into depth with it, I was rather pleased to see focus on building Moose vs. Cody and the emphasis put on Lashley throughout the show. The episode was overall solid, but clearly there were some things I would've changed. Despite that, I'm very much looking forward to the two title matches next week. Impact is off to a good start in building new stories and characters.
