Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - May 29, 2015

Before I begin, let me just say that it felt so good to have Impact back. After a week off due to the holiday weekend and quite a bit of behind the scenes drama, it was such a good feeling just to sit back and enjoy an episode of Impact on Friday night. I was excited going into this week's episode and I'm happy to say that for the most part, the show delivered.

TNAMecca Presents...the Official Debut of Impact Live Discussion!

When we officially launched on August 12, 2013, our main objective was to provide TNA fans with a place they could visit that was free from the disruptions that unfortunately became all too common on other wrestling sites. Here at TNAMecca, fans can discuss their favorite wrestling promotion freely and openly without having to deal with the hate or trolling by the anti-TNA crowd. We're happy to say that many TNA fans have made TNAMecca their home and part of their daily/weekly routines and we'd love to see more TNA fans visit and maybe stay.

So with that in mind, we'd like to extend an invitation to any TNA fan who hasn't joined our community, and we feel now's as good a time as any because starting Wednesday June 3rd, we will officially debut a new Impact Live Discussion where our community of loyal and passionate fans will have an opportunity to share their thoughts on Impact during the show, and simply hang out and have fun with other TNA fans in a troll-free and spoiler-free environment.

Impact Live Discussion will debut at 8PM EST on Wednesday, June 3rd just in time for the premiere of Ring of Honor on Destination America as well as the first episode of Impact Wrestling on its new night. We feel that Wednesday nights, starting on June 3rd, will be a must-watch night of television for all wrestling fans and we feel that TNAMecca will be the place to be for real wrestling fans. So make sure you join us on Wednesday June 3rd at 8PM EST for Impact: A TNAMecca Live Discussion.

TNA Friday Randomania - May 29, 2015

- When I sat down today to prepare for this week's Randomania, I looked back on everything that has happened in the last two weeks and although I was tempted to recap it all for you, I decided against it. I felt it was unnecessary.  I will, however, share with you my thoughts on a couple of things that happened. Firstly, I'd like to address the rumor that Destination America is planning to cancel Impact in September. I think it's important to understand that this is a rumor until someone within TNA or Discovery confirms it. As for the rumor, there has been no evidence presented by the original source that indicates to me that this is true, because let me be clear, the onus is on the source of this story to report the facts and present his evidence. And he hasn't done that. Some have said the onus is on Destination America to release a statement denying the rumors. That's preposterous. A cable network is under no obligation to, nor should they, publicly refute any rumors by a dirtsheet writer especially when this particular writer makes statements such as this "I even made it clear the story was still ongoing...", when he's come under heavy criticism by those within TNA. Don't shoot the messenger, he suggests. Unfortunately, the messenger in this case has shown that he's wrong about TNA more times than not, and nothing that I've seen since he reported this story convinces me that he's right this time.

The Wolves and Bram Re-Sign with TNA!

This afternoon, TNA's Executive VP of Creative & Talent Relations John Gaburick announced that the Wolves, Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, have re-signed with TNA. This is fantastic news as the Wolves are a vital piece in the puzzle that is the current TNA tag team division. Richards and Edwards are currently involved in a Best of Five series against the Dirty Heels, Austin Aries and Bobby Roode, for the TNA tag team championships.

TNAMecca Exclusive: Q&A with Rockstar Spud

This Friday night on Impact, Kenny King will defend his X Division championship against seven other men in a gauntlet match - Rockstar Spud, Tigre Uno, Manik, DJ Z, Mandrews, Crazzy Steve, and Argos. This match is significant because this year's Destination X is fast approaching and the man with the X Division championship around his waist may get an opportunity to challenge for the TNA World Heavyweight championship. One of the participants in this week's X Division title match, Rockstar Spud, was kind enough to answer some questions for us. Below is our exchange:

Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - May 15, 2015

The Dollhouse presents Hardcore War! That would be a more accurate title for this episode of IMPACT.  Giving two segments of the show to The Dollhouse was a bold move but it's also one that I didn't personally have a problem with.  They got a nice win over Brooke and Rebel and also had a sexy promo with Taryn in lingerie provoking Gail Kim and her husband Robert Irvine. This group delivered both times and I would contend that having them featured in a segment on each episode of IMPACT is best for business.  After all, Taryn is the Knockouts Champion.  We also want to get to know Jade and Marti Bell's personas more and more so it all makes sense to me.  I doubt they'll get two segments in a show again so this was most likely a one-time thing.  The use of the song from the band Hole for their theme music is a direct benefit of having Billy Corgan in the company.   On a different note, I think it is high time that we start seeing the X-Division showcased a bit more though. The X-Division still needs to start getting real time and matches, not just lip service of such happening.  Other than that the overall product felt so much better this week and this show delivered.

Post-Impact Discussion for May 15, 2015

One of my favorite activities after watching Impact is searching for forums in which fans can talk about the show and share with one another their thoughts.  However, it's getting increasingly harder to find venues where TNA fans can safely express their opinions on Impact without having to deal with the trolling of the anti-TNA crowd or the smarks who insist on taking the fun out of pro wrestling.

For this reason, we felt it was important to make TNAMecca available to our readers and any TNA fans who would like to discuss the show after watching it.  You can now visit TNAMecca immediately following Impact to do exactly that in the comments section below each and every week.  So please feel free to share with us your thoughts on tonight's Impact on Destination America from Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.  What did you think of the show?  What did you like or dislike?  Let us know.

Impact Moves to Wednesdays Starting June 3rd!

This afternoon, Dixie Carter announced that Impact will be moving to Wednesdays on June 3rd. On the surface, it might seem like surprising news but it really isn't simply because Friday nights, going into the Summer months, was going to be a problem for TNA. I think this is the best case scenario as Wednesday nights was a night Impact aired on previously so it's not exactly uncharted waters for the company. But I do hope that this is a permanent move and that Destination America doesn't make the mistake of constantly moving Impact every six or so months. Click here to read the full press release.

TNA Friday Randomania - May 15, 2015

- I can only speak for myself but I feel that TNA shot themselves in the foot, last week, by bringing Bully Ray back, albeit for one night. The reveal of Ray's return in the opening moments of Impact caused me to emotionally check out of the rest of the show, and as hard as I tried, I simply could not invest in the action after that. Not a single thing resonated with me. I was done. Looking back now, I still question the decision to bring back a wrestler which a good portion of the fanbase has soured on, especially since his return felt so random and unnecessary. In my case, it affected my enjoyment of the show greatly and more importantly, it has left me less than enthusiastic about the current TNA product. I have to wonder if there was any benefit to bringing Bully Ray back, especially since the viewership for last week's show was disappointing. The drawbacks, however, were aplenty.

TNAMecca Exclusive: Q&A with The Dollhouse's Marti Bell

Tomorrow night on Impact, the Dollhouse are scheduled to wrestle Brooke and Rebel in Knockouts tag team action. The Dollhouse have made quite an impact since debuting a few weeks ago as two of its members, Jade and Marti Bell, aligned with Taryn Terrell to form what will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with in the Knockouts Division. This week, Marti was kind enough to answer some questions for us, although it didn't take long before the Marti we see every week on Impact emerged. Below is our exchange:

The New N-Word

Two weeks ago, in an interview with Esquire, the newly appointed Senior Producer of TNA's creative team, Billy Corgan, set out a mission statement for how he would like to affect change within the company's flagship television show.  To paraphrase, his goal is to tell the Great American Story and to stop the masses looking down their noses at wrestling by transforming it into a form of entertainment that addresses serious issues that transcend cultural divides.

This past Friday, during an uncomfortable in-ring promo from MVP, we may have caught our first glimpse of Corgan's vision.

Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - May 8, 2015

This week Impact was very special in the sense that for the first time since January 7, TNA's debut on Destination America, Impact was Live and there were promises of lots of surprises in store. A World Title match between Kurt Angle and Eric Young was on tap, with a former World Champion returning to be the special ref, as well as Mr Anderson vs EC3 with fans picking the stipulation and for the first time ever rivals Gail Kim & Awesome Kong team up to face The Dollhouse. With everything on tap there was potential for this show to be a special night, the question was would it live up to the hype?

TNA Friday Randomania - May 8, 2015

- It's the much-anticipated live episode of Impact tonight, the first since January 7th, a night in which we saw the return of Awesome Kong and the reveal of the Beat Down Clan. So you're not alone if you're expecting some surprises on tonight's show. What those are, I don't know. But we do know that a former TNA world champion will return to be the special guest referee for the world title match between Kurt Angle and Eric Young. Initially, I thought of Lashley, who would technically be returning from injury at the hands of Young, but TNA just yesterday tweeted that the mystery guest is not on the current roster. This indicates that the former world champion will be one of the following: AJ Styles, Bully Ray, Chris Sabin, Mick Foley, Rob Van Dam, Samoa Joe, or Sting. Looking at that list, and taking into account factors such as availability and other commitments, I'd say that Joe returning to TNA tonight is a strong possibility. So is Bully Ray or Rob Van Dam. I truly believe that it will ultimately be one of the three but my gut tells me that Samoa Joe will be coming home tonight.

TNAMecca Exclusive: Q&A with Ethan Carter III

Tomorrow night on a live episode of Impact, Ethan Carter III and Mr. Anderson are set to face off in a battle of two candidates campaigning for the hearts and minds of every wrestling fan.  All week, TNA fans have been voting on the stipulation for their first match by either voting for EC3 (and Arm Wrestling) or Mr. Anderson (and Falls Count Anywhere). We will find out the results tomorrow night.  Tonight, however, EC3 has agreed to answer some questions exclusively for TNAMecca.  Below is our exchange:

Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - May 1, 2015

It was the Hardcore Justice edition of Impact this week on Destination America and I think for the most part TNA did not disappoint. Although I don't think the show was extreme enough, I thought it delivered enough hardcore action to justify the theme. I can't help feel, however, that TNA realized in post-production that they had taped a few hardcore-style matches and decided last minute to lump them together and stick the Hardcore Justice label on. I'm sure that's not the case but I wish TNA did a better job promoting this special episode of Impact.

TNA Friday Randomania - May 1, 2015

- This week began with the news that Billy Corgan would be joining TNA as Senior Producer of Creative and Talent Development, and what followed was quite remarkable. The sort of mainstream media exposure that Corgan's arrival brought to TNA on Monday is unparalleled in the company's history. The signing of Hulk Hogan came close but the news that an iconic rock star would be joining a wrestling promotion was something several major publications and sites all over the world simply could not resist. It began with Variety and it concluded with a fantastic piece by Esquire, and in between there were articles by Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, FOX Sports, Wall Street Journal, Pitchfork, Alternative Press, Paste Magazine, and many others. This sort of exposure is invaluable to a company like TNA because it targeted groups of individuals who may not be familiar with the TNA brand such as music lovers, and specifically the Smashing Pumpkins' legion of fans. Whether it will attract new viewers or fans of the product remains to be seen but at the very least, if this week's media coverage showed us something real, it was that TNA can create mainstream buzz the likes of which only one other wrestling company in this country can, the WWE.
