Post-Impact Discussion for Jan 30, 2015

One of my favorite activities after watching Impact is searching for forums in which fans can talk about the show and share with one another their thoughts.  However, it's getting increasingly harder to find venues where TNA fans can safely express their opinions on Impact without having to deal with the trolling of the anti-TNA crowd or the smarks who insist on taking the fun out of pro wrestling.

For this reason, we felt it was important to make TNAMecca available to our readers and any TNA fans who would like to discuss the show after watching it.  You can now visit TNAMecca immediately following Impact to do exactly that in the comments section below each and every week.  So please feel free to share with us your thoughts on tonight's episode of Impact on Destination America from the Manhattan Center in New York City.  What did you think of the show?  What did you like or dislike?  Let us know.

TNA Friday Randomania - Jan 30, 2015

- This week, I'd like to begin by giving TNA and its writing staff a much-deserved kudos for scripting a moment on last week's episode of Impact that, simply put, took my breath away. It was a moment so heartfelt, it touched me in a profound way. It was the moment Bobby Roode found the TNA world heavyweight championship belt that was left lying in the streets of New York City in the aftermath of a street fight. He so gently grabbed ahold of the belt and admired it as if it were the single most important thing in his life. But I'm not surprised. When Bobby Roode describes how much he loves the world championship, he does so with so much conviction. And he showed us how much when he held onto the belt as if he had just found an abandoned eight-week old puppy.  Unfortunately for Roode, this title belt had not been abandoned at all, something he quickly realized when he looked up to find its rightful owner looking right back at him.

Returns & Debuts at Glasgow Tapings!

Impactwrestling.com reported that former Knockouts Champion Mickie James returned at tonight's Impact Wrestling taping in Glasgow. Rumours and theories have been flying around the last few weeks that Mickie could be returning, and in this case TNA must have made the call to announce it themselves instead of it being spoiled by sites before her return airs. I think this is great news as James was doing some of her best work before her abrupt departure in the Summer of 2013. With the additions of Awesome Kong & now Mickie James, the Knockouts division just got very interesting indeed.

Welcome to TNAMecca Presents CHAT!  Although we aren't an open forum where members can start their own threads, our sense of community spirit is what sets us apart from other wrestling sites so we thought it'd be fun to give our members the ability to dictate the discussion for one night a week.  Anything goes in CHAT but we do ask that most topics remain TNA-related. You can also discuss any rumors from any source regardless of how ludicrous they might sound.  However, the same etiquette rules that apply to our comments section in general also will apply here, including our policy on spoilers.

Bracing for Maximum Impact 7

Despite the blizzards that have swept New York and surrounding areas, TNA have miraculously managed to make last minute changes and re-route all of the advertised roster to the UK for this year's Maximum Impact Tour. After a short stop in Amsterdam, Twitter is already filling up with photos from the roster that have arrived safely in Glasgow for the first night of the tour tomorrow.

TNA to Return to Orlando's Universal Studios

Dixie Carter just announced via Twitter that TNA will be returning to Universal Studios Orlando for several blocks of TV tapings in February, March & April. In February they will have 5 back to back days of tapings where content will be filmed for 8 One Night Only PPV's and Xplosion matches. They will then run 4 days of Impact Wrestling tapings in March & 3 days of Impact tapings in April. It sounds like TNA are going to tape enough ONO PPV's for the rest of the year and will have 7 to 14 episodes of Impact taped from the Impact Zone. I can't say I'm thrilled about the decision and was personally hoping we would see some ONO shows in different locations taped closer to their air date, but from a financial standpoint & looking at the way TNA now approaches taping TV, this fits into the model. Having Only One Working Arm Can't Stop EC3 From Stealing The Show

Disclaimer: Since I began writing for TNAMecca, I changed up my writing style a bit as I went from talking about multiple topics per column to having one clear cut topic that I focused on because the multiple topic column was Chris Regal's TNAMecca column. However due to a 3 week hiatus from writing due to fatigue from work, Impact tapings and some laziness thrown in there I have a few things I want to talk about TNA related so this column will be focusing on a few things. The column's title gives away one thing I will be talking about, I will also be talking about the Beat Down Clan, The results of Feast or Fired and TNA on Destination America.

Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - Jan 23, 2015

This week's Impact was all about two things, Feast or Fired & the BDC's next move. Who would retrieve the briefcases? who would be fired? who would get what title shot? and what would the BDC do now they had the World Title belt hostage? all of these questions were being asked going into Impact, and in the two hour slot all of them were answered.

TNA Friday Randomania - Jan 23, 2015

- On this week's episode of Fans Talk TNA, the guys discussed the status of Eric Young as it relates to his relationship with the BDC so I thought I'd give my thoughts on this interesting alliance. As it stands now, it appears that Young is aligned with the BDC but not an official member.  MVP said as much in his opening promo last week.  He also posted a photo of the entire group on his Facebook page after the show and the caption read, "The BDC and Eric Young".  So it's clear that in MVP's mind, EY is simply an ally. But how does Eric Young feel? Although Young stated last week that he's aligned with the BDC, he came across as a hanger-on to me, a henchman if you will. Whether or not that was the writers' intention, I don't know, but Young seemed rather willing to go above and beyond for the BDC when he joined in on the beatdowns to Lashley and Kurt Angle. I say this because Eric Young's issues are solely with Bobby Roode. I suppose it'd make sense for Young to feel inclined to help take Lashley out due to their past history but what about in Angle's case?  I don't recall the two being at odds in recent history so this appears to be a case in which Young is a faithful follower. Conversely, the BDC had every opportunity to beat Roode down following his loss to EY in the same manner they did Kurt Angle, which followed his loss to Samoa Joe, but chose not to. So we've already witnessed one instance where the alliance isn't mutually beneficial.  I wonder, how far are the clan members willing to go to protect and defend Eric Young, knowing full well that he's an asset. Or will he have to fight his own battles? The question then becomes, what exactly is his deal with the BDC? I have a feeling that the relationship between Eric Young and the BDC isn't as clear-cut as we think and it'll be interesting to see how it evolves in the coming weeks and months.

Stable Value

To my eternal shame, but mostly for my own personal amusement, I sometimes scroll down to the comments section of the official TNA uploads on Youtube.  Aside from the overwhelming sense of confusion I get from non-TNA fans taking the time to watch and comment (read: berate) on a TNA video, one thing I have noticed since #DestinationIMPACT is a lot of genuine commenters unhappy about TNA's continued use of stables.

Looking back at the latter days of the last two stables to hit the scrap-heap, the reincarnated Main Event Mafia and the Aces & Eights, I can't exactly blame them.

However, to completely write off the Beat Down Clan and The Revolution based on the failures of their predecessors I feel is a bit short-sighted at this stage.  There have been a lot of changes to TNA over the last couple of years, both on-screen and behind the camera, and I doubt the current creative team is in any rush to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Funny How Things Work Out

Life imitating art.  What does that really mean?  Even if you aren't sure, just look at those two nouns: life and art.  We all have real lives, including me.  Experiences shape us as people and sometimes you have to take risks to get where you want to go in life.  TNA recently took a step back to take 2 steps forward.  To outsiders it seemed like TNA was making a stupid move and taking too big of a step backwards in their evolution as a company.  I also have had a similar experience recently with my full time paying job.  Some of you know about a few of my experiences and how I had worked in a jail for years in the past amongst other intense and character-shaping employments.  Only a select number of you really know the real me but it's not difficult to see, as demonstrated from our recent illustration from Vincent, that I have had some life experiences and that I've maybe been through a few things.  TNA recently gave up some ground in a wise decision to go to Destination America and leave Spike TV.  I also gave up a very secure and lucrative job to go to a lower tier job and work my way back up the ladder of success.  It is working out for me beautifully so far.  TNA's partnership is also working out beautifully for them so far.  Do you see where I'm going with this?

Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - Jan 16, 2015

Going into this week's episode of Impact, I thought this show would ultimately be judged by how well TNA would execute the next chapter of the stories that dominated the discussion last week: Eric Young betraying Bobby Roode, Samoa Joe and Low Ki aligning with MVP, Kenny King and presumably Lashley, and the return of Awesome Kong.

Jeff Hardy, Manik, Kenny King, Gail Kim and More Sign with TNA!

TNA announced this afternoon that Jeff Hardy has re-signed with the company. This is a great signing simply because Hardy's one of TNA's biggest stars at a time when the star power is at its lowest in company history, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Jeff Hardy's also quite versatile since he can compete in the main event scene as well as in the Tag Team Division with Matt Hardy.  I suspect that he'll spend much of 2015 in the latter division however and that's a good thing.

TNA Friday Randomania - Jan 16, 2015

- It's the season premiere of Impact Wrestling on Destination America tonight at 9PM EST (6PM PST for our West Coast readers) and quite frankly, it feels like the new era officially begins tonight. At least that's what Destination America wants us to think with their continuous advertisements for tonight's show. But they've been advertising tonight's Impact as the season premiere since early December so it's obvious that this was their plan all along. And a good plan it's been...with constant ads on Destination America, in fact there was an ad for Impact during almost every commercial break.  This week, Discovery joined in with a promotional blitz that saw commercials for TNA on networks such as USA (during WWE RAW), the ESPN networks, NBA TV and more as well as an ad in yesterday's USA Today. Incidentally, that was a half page ad. Let me repeat, a half page ad in USA Today. I'd say that Discovery Communications have advertised Impact more and to a broader audience in one week than SpikeTV did in several years.  Let's also keep in mind that SpikeTV's era featured legendary wrestling icons such as Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Sting, and others and they never seemed willing to go that extra mile for TNA.  In comparison, Discovery has much less star power to work with yet it hasn't stopped them from featuring the likes of Austin Aries and Bobby Roode in a newspaper which vies with the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times as having the widest circulation in the United States. All this money and support from Discovery for a network that reaches about half of SpikeTV's households is an indication that they have faith that TNA's brand awareness, beyond that of the Nielsen's families, will grow that of Destination America's. This is not about Nielsen's ratings, folks. This is about Destination America growing into a major cable channel, which will give Discovery more leverage when it's time to negotiate a new deal with cable and satellite providers.

THAT Video Package

In the days and hours ahead of their relaunch on Destination America (and at the expense of attending the first live show in person) TNA President Dixie Carter embarked on a media blitz to promote the company's new home and field some pretty probing questions about the circumstances surrounding the signing of the new television deal and her thoughts on what the future held for TNA on Destination America.

In one particular interview with Brian Fritz of SportingNews.com on the day of the relaunch, Carter was asked whether fans would be seeing more live episodes of Impact:

"I think that where we want to go from a production and a feel standpoint from the show does not work going live.  It does not allow us to do the kind of things that we're going to want to do because there's just a lot of post-production time involved in it. [...] I think where we're going to try to take the show is definitely going to take post-production time and we're not going to be able to pull off all the bells and whistles we want if we try to go live."

Perhaps I am just a natural born skeptic, but whenever I read interviews I am usually trying to read between the lines.  What is not being said, asked or answered, is often a lot more telling than what is being said. Whether it is a politician, celebrity, or indeed wrestling promoter, there is undoubtedly some PR guru standing in the shadows that has prepared their client ahead of the interview.  Dixie Carter is likely no exception.  After all, this is a lady that was in charge of TNA's marketing and publicity before she became the company's President.

Strong Partnership

This new TNA TV deal with Destination America and Discovery Communications has been very impressive so far.  It's such new territory for TNA fans to see a U.S. TV Network supporting the company like this.  Honestly, it seems almost too good to be true.  That's the thing though...it is real and it is true...and it has only just began.  This is just the tip of the iceberg for what is to come over these next 12 months and beyond.  Just imagine what can happen in this first year of the Destination America Era.  IMPACT Wrestling can finally become the company that we have always wanted it to be here in the U.S. and globally.  This is such a precious opportunity for them to succeed in ways that have never been seen in their near 13 year history.  We're finally starting to see the advertising/promotional campaign we've been clamoring about for years.  We're finally seeing additional programming that fans have asked about for years.  The roster is filled with amazing talent and the direction of the company looks fantastic right now.  Am I right?  Or am I just a mark that doesn't know a damn thing?

Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - Jan 7, 2015

Well, here we are!  The first Ringside of 2015 and the first edition of the Destination America Era.  The most fitting word I can use to describe this show is special.  It was a special, special show.  You don't get many like this.  A near 2 month build up and wait that was rewarded with a new TV network debut and a pay-off that you will never forget.  Can you ask for more?  Not in one show, as it was just the right mix of surprise, quality wrestling, drama and intrigue.  Was it perfect?  No, and nothing ever is 100% perfect.  However, this show was a more powerful IMPACT than usual in multiple ways and on several fronts. I rarely remember being this excited and motivated to write an IMPACT review.  So, let's walk down that memory lane of 2 days ago.  Before that, a quick note about Ringside's regular slot starting next week.  It will be posted at 6 PM EST on Sundays, which coincidentally is also the same time that IMPACT gets over on Challenge TV in the U.K. for our beloved British community members.  The U.K. audiences will soon be hosting IMPACT in front of large, passionate fans and serendipitously our Ringside Reviews will also serve as a place for British fans to discuss IMPACT directly after the weekly Sunday showings are over.  For now, though, back to New York City!

There's a Storm a-Brewin'

Breaking the 4th Wall: ( and Spoiler if you have recorded Impact! for a later time ) This article was written prior to the airing of TNA Impact! Live. Unfortunately, the narrative will no longer coincide with the current story-line since Lashley is now Heavyweight champion. I could have simply substituted Lashley for Roode in the fiction; however, fluidity and credibility may have been lost in the process. I shall now duct tape the 4th wall and get to it! Enjoy, my friends!

TNA Tuesday Randomania - Jan 6, 2014

- It's a moment TNA fans have been waiting for since November 19th and I'm happy to report that the premiere of Impact Wrestling on Destination America is just a day away. One day, folks. Tomorrow, at 9:00PM EST, TNA fans will be glued to their television sets to watch the opening moments of the first ever episode of Impact on Destination America. As much as fans are excited for the show, they're equally as excited for the show's intro in order to get a glimpse of the new Impact logo in all its glory.  That's what makes us diehards.  Even the tiniest of things such as a new graphic brings us joy because of what it represents. It's a new era for the company that we love. But even more than that, it represents TNA's ability to persevere in the face of so much adversity. My fellow TNA fans, I encourage you to watch the opening moments of Impact tomorrow night and take it all in, cherish it, and let it be a reminder that our unwavering support for TNA did not go to waste. Dixie Carter and Co. made sure of that.

The Wolves and Eric Young Re-Sign with TNA!

TNA announced this morning that the Wolves, Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards, have re-signed with the company. This is fantastic news. The Wolves, in my opinion, were the best tag team in mainstream wrestling last year and interestingly enough, we still haven't seen this team's full potential. This is definitely something to look for in 2015. A great re-signing by TNA.

Dear TNA: Please Don't Ever Leave Us Again

Disclaimer: You people didn't think I wouldn't have something written down and posted on the week of the TNA grand re-launch on Destination America did ya??? Anyway this write up is a very simple one as it's an open letter from me to TNA Impact Wrestling.

Back In Business

It's safe to say it's been awhile since I last put a column together, but with a new year comes re-prioritization, and after a lot of distractions I can honestly say that in 2015 producing content and running this site along with Chris & Reece is high on my list, and with such great things on TNA's horizon, all hands will be on deck for what will be a big year for both TNA & TNAMecca. With Impact Wrestling's debut on Destination America just days away, my personal excitement levels are pretty high, all thanks to events that have happened in the build-up to this Wednesday's historical event. We all see things differently, so I'm going to go over some of the big happenings that have got us to this point, and maybe a different view-point on some things just might make a little more excited for what is undoubtedly the dawning of a new era for TNA.

Jessie Godderz, Madison Rayne and Mr Anderson Re-Sign with TNA!

TNA announced this morning that Jessie Godderz has re-signed with the company. Godderz is at an interesting point in his TNA career because there's been quite a bit of speculation that he and Robbie E are in for a massive push in 2015. Personally, I hope so because I think the BroMans have a higher upside than they get credit for. If you don't agree with me, I suggest you check out their recent six-man tag match for Wrestle-1 with DJ Z against Team 246 and Minoru Tanaka.

New Year, No Fear

We are all more than ready for some new TNA TV content, and now we're just mere days away from the much anticipated Destination America IMPACT debut!  The real TNA fans deserve some major kudos for showing such patience during the last several weeks.  And now the fun begins!  Now we can just sit back and watch the whole thing unfold before our eyes.  Some of you will be there in person at The Manhattan Center, while most of us will watch the first IMPACT on Destination America from the comfort of our homes while we enjoy a favorite beverage or 2.  Wrestling shows that have this much build-up and anticipation are somewhat difficult to get a feel for, as far as what potentially could happen.  For the most part, TNA is keeping their cards close to the vest and that is drawing out some wild speculation from the IWC.  I definitely agree with Chris that TNA has wised up since the January 4th, 2010 spectacle and hopefully they will not repeat similar mistakes.  Past that, it's anyone's guess as to the direction and approach that the company will take on this debut episode and subsequent IMPACTs in the near future emanating from New York City and the United Kingdom.  The thrill and intrigue of the unknown is somewhat underrated, so enjoy it while it lasts because soon there will be spoilers posted at every turn on social media and every pro-wrestling site out there except for TNAMecca.

Roode Awakening

His knuckles turn white as he pulls the boot laces taut enough to cut the circulation off of any average man. Looking at the tiled locker room floor, each crack resembles the ventured roads of Canada, and the U.S., which served as the catalyst for the many paid dues of this well-traveled wrestler. Lying beside him – the TNA Heavyweight title. Its' sheen lashes at him like the many stars that he has faced on the way to the top. Staring into each golden plate, they all cast a different reflection resembling the many faces worn over the past decade. His opponent has made his way to the ring and is receiving solar-like heat from those in attendance. It - is - time.

Adjusting his knee-pads, he stands to rest his two hundred and thirty plus pound frame on his now tightly laced boots. The locker room door was a cardboard flap as the adrenaline was overwhelming - the corridor to the entrance ramp was drab in comparison to this glistening star. In the gorilla position, he looks down at his decorated waist. Once again he wears the World Heavyweight title; his last reign was a record breaker, this reign has just begun. The curtain rests millimeters from his scruffy chin - brief feedback from the PA system brushes the blood red curtain against his two-week old whiskers. Music strikes the ears of thousands on hand and Christy Hemme raises the microphone to her velvet lips, "...and now making his way to the ring, the TNA World Heavyweight Champion, Bobby Rooooooooooode!"
