Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - Mar 27, 2015

In last week's edition my colleague Chris Regal made the case to call Impact from two weeks ago one of the best shows in several years, and this week I feel I have to make the same case for last weeks Impact. The show was great from start to finish, a combination of great storytelling and incredible action made last week so much fun and continued the great run TNA has been on, so much so that it made me optimistic that this weeks return to the Impact Zone would not effect the quality of the program, and in my eyes it absolutely did not.

Post-Impact Discussion for Mar 27, 2015

One of my favorite activities after watching Impact is searching for forums in which fans can talk about the show and share with one another their thoughts.  However, it's getting increasingly harder to find venues where TNA fans can safely express their opinions on Impact without having to deal with the trolling of the anti-TNA crowd or the smarks who insist on taking the fun out of pro wrestling.

For this reason, we felt it was important to make TNAMecca available to our readers and any TNA fans who would like to discuss the show after watching it.  You can now visit TNAMecca immediately following Impact to do exactly that in the comments section below each and every week.  So please feel free to share with us your thoughts on tonight's episode of Impact on Destination America from Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.  What did you think of the show?  What did you like or dislike?  Let us know.

TNA Friday Randomania - Mar 27, 2015

- It's the end of this year's UK tour and the start of the episodes of Impact taped from the Impact Zone in Orlando, Florida. Yes, the dreaded Impact Zone. I wasn't very happy when TNA announced that they'd be returning to Universal Studios for Impact tapings in March but I understood the decision to do so. It's a reality that I must accept, and although I have my moments in which some frustration seeps out, I think I have a pretty good grasp of the situation. I get it. But sitting here today, I'm not dreading the return to the Impact Zone as much as I thought I would. In fact, I'm feeling strangely optimistic about the next few weeks. And that's a testament to TNA and the product that they've put out in recent months...a product that, from week to week, continues to raise the bar just enough to make you want to come back for more. I admit, TNA have me hooked, and they have me hooked in a way that I haven't been hooked in years. This is pro wrestling (and sports entertainment) at its finest, and I simply can not get enough.

Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - Mar 20, 2015

Judging by the reactions of so many wrestling fans, I'd say that last week's episode of Impact was one of the best in the last several years. I'd even go one step further and call it one of the best in TNA history. It was that good. If you still haven't watched it or are on the fence due to whatever reasons, I highly recommend giving it a watch. For this reason, I went into this week's Impact with high expectations, hoping that TNA will at least come close to matching last week's quality. And I'm happy to report that they did.

TNA Friday Randomania - Mar 20, 2015

- I've seen a lot of praise for last week's Impact, even from those who usually aren't as generous with the compliments for TNA which is noteworthy in itself, but I think it's important to truly understand why this particular episode resonated with so many. It resonated because viewers were emotionally invested. And they were emotionally invested because of TNA's long term approach to booking and storytelling. Ethan Carter III vs Rockstar Spud could not have been the masterpiece that it was if TNA and its writing staff hadn't nurtured this duo as best friends and enemies for the last 16 months. It's due to that commitment and dedication that led to what, in my mind, was one of the most rewarding viewing experiences in recent pro wrestling history. At a time when wrestling struggles to tug at our heartstrings, mainly due to the cynicism of many "fans" that has led to the death of kayfabe, EC3 vs Spud reminded the rest of us that pro wrestling, when done right, can still evoke real emotions. Because the truth is...for me and many others, kayfabe was alive and well last Friday night and we have TNA, its writing staff, and its roster of wonderfully talented wrestlers to thank for that.

Canned Commentary

Although the first half of the Wembley leg of the UK tour was a resounding success in the hearts and minds of TNA fans, it didn't escape the notice of many people that Taz's contributions to the commentary team were decidedly... off this past Friday.  For whatever reason, Josh Mathews was practically calling the show alone, accompanied by sporadic soundbites from his announcing partner Taz.

EC3 vs. Rockstar Spud: A Top Star is Born

Disclaimer: It's been a little while since I have done one of these things and I apologize for that but it's a matter of finding time to write these things and I can't always find the time to do so. With that out of the way, let's get to the Musings. In this write up, I will be talking about EC3 vs. Rockstar Spud, Bram's awesomeness and how Samoa Joe going to WWE would be the best thing that ever happened to TNA.

Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - Mar 13, 2015

This kind of a show is one we'll look back on 5 years from now and pinpoint as a launching pad for both Ethan Carter III and Rockstar Spud.  Both men were absolutely spectacular in the main event and I was on the edge of my seat for the majority of IMPACT because the quality level was very high.  TNA just keeps outdoing themselves with these U.K. shows and we still have one more glorious episode left to cap off another awesome Maximum IMPACT Tour.  All good things come to an end, but due to the nature of the Destination America Era in 2015 so far, IMPACT is so good right now that it doesn't even bother me that they are returning to the IMPACT Zone for a few months.  Normally I would somewhat dread it but this wrestling promotion is currently on fire and this product would be hot no matter where they filmed it on the entire planet, and I truly mean that.

TNA Friday Randomania - Mar 13, 2015

- The London shows are upon us, folks, and from what I've been told by those who attended the Wembley tapings, we're in for quite a treat. Based on next week's much anticipated main event, Lashley vs Kurt Angle for the world heavyweight championship, it feels like TNA plans to conclude this year's UK Tour with a bang. But tonight's show promises to get it all started in grand style with a Last Man Standing Match between Bobby Roode and Eric Young. This, to me, has been the best feud in pro wrestling this year and part of me hopes it continues for a little while longer but I imagine we will get our closure tonight. I'm optimistic, however, that the writers will find ways to keep Roode and Young in each other's orbit in the weeks and months ahead.

The Official TNA Signings Discussion

Bob Ryder announced early yesterday that TNA has made "several signings (or re-signings)" in the last few weeks and at least one will be announced today and some will be announced this weekend. For this reason, we've decided to create a thread in which we can discuss all the signings as they happen throughout the week. We will report any new signing or re-signing here so please make sure you keep checking in for all the latest.

Shaun Ricker to Work the Impact Tapings in Orlando

Shaun Ricker tweeted late last night that he will be traveling to Orlando, Florida this weekend presumably to work the Impact tapings. This is great news especially for many of our members who had been hoping that TNA sign him to a deal since the recent One Night Only tapings, in which he appeared. This by no means confirms that a deal has been signed but it's certainly a good sign that he will be appearing on Impact at some point this Spring. More to come...

Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - Mar 6, 2015

The main focus going into this week was the 3 way match for #1 contendership to the World Title between Kurt Angle, Bobby Roode & Eric Young. We were also in for the fallout of last weeks World Title bout, where after much interference from the BDC & opposing members of the roster, Drew Galloway got involved in the Clan's business and caused MVP to lose his title opportunity. The questions going into Impact were how would the BDC deal with Galloway after making 2 declarations of war in 2 weeks? and who would stand victorious and earn the right to fight Lashley for TNA's top prize?

TNA Friday Randomania - Mar 6, 2015

- Two weeks ago, Drew Galloway made his official TNA debut in his home country of Scotland when he saved Grado and Al Snow from an attack by the BDC. At the time, I assumed that the purpose of his actions was to save his fellow countryman but last week's events - Galloway striking MVP - indicate a cause that's much bigger. It appears that Drew Galloway, upon his arrival in TNA, has targeted the BDC. But the question is why? I think it's also important to note that one man rarely ever provokes a fight with a gang without the support of others so it stands to reason that Galloway may have a clan of his own. I could be way off but I'm sensing, based on what I know, that I may be right. In my mind, this is all leading to an epic battle between the BDC and Galloway's crew, who appear to represent the people.

The Next Ten Years: Beyond the Originals

Breaking the 4th Wall: Over the next few weeks on Impact, we will be watching Samoa Joe with the BDC, knowing that his presence is limited. Sure, his last few months were not that desirable and we may have wished that they were more memorable, but it was all in the hands of the creative gods. Let us all enjoy the last few Joe episodes and let us all continue to endear those who are currently on the roster. While life is short, wrestling life is much shorter.

Christopher Daniels remained perched on the top turnbuckle while Samoa Joe lined him up for his infamous muscle buster. Daniels was just about gone and his body teetered heavily. "Joe's gonna kill you... Joe's gonna kill you..." chanted the lively crowd. Daniels slowly gained consciousness, but could only make out a few of the fans who were throwing profanities at him. Joe proceeded to hug Daniels' head in tight, staging him for the finisher, but he heard an intense trampling on the mat. He spun around quickly and took a Frankie Kazarian chair to his wide back. Daniels opportunely leaped off of the turnbuckle and started to gain his equilibrium back. He turned to the crowd and gave them the back of his blacked-out hand, complete with his untapped middle finger. The heat coming off of the crowd could have singed the eyelashes of a lizard. Repeatedly, they stomped at Joe, banged him with chairs, and attempted to turn him into pulp. "Get ready to fly!" reverberated through the rafters and brought all in attendance to their tippy-toes. Running down the entrance ramp, red with anger was A.J. Styles. He leaped up onto the top rope and sprung off with ease, catching Kazarian with a gloved fist. Kazarian crashed to the mat and slowly rolled out to the floor. Daniels staggered towards him and launched a punch his way, but A.J. blocked it and threw one of his own. Daniels released another, and another, but Styles had a counter for each one. A wonky legged Christopher Daniels wobbled around, almost humorously. His legs crossed one another in the confusion. Styles put a boot into his stomach and laid him out with a Styles clash. Daniels went down and never recovered. Helping Samoa Joe back to his feet, A.J. Styles raised Joe's beefy hand, pointed at him, and pulled him in for one last hug. The crowd popped loudly and even Bad Influence will never forget what was chanted during their painful outro. "TNA... TNA... TNA..."

Ringside: Impact Wrestling Review - Feb 27, 2015

This week's episode of Impact seemed to be all about the world title match between Lashley and MVP as well as its aftermath, especially for those who have a stake in the fight. In that sense, I think TNA did a very good job. From the opening moments to the final minutes, TNA's world title scene took center stage and proved to be one of the company's strengths right now.
