Impact Live Discussion for Dec 29, 2015

Many wrestling fans enjoy participating in fun discussions during Impact every week, whether it's on social media or wrestling sites. However, it's getting increasingly harder to find places where TNA fans can safely express their opinions on Impact without having to deal with the trolling of the anti-TNA crowd or the smarks who insist on taking the fun out of pro wrestling. For this reason, we felt it was important to make TNAMecca available to our readers and any TNA fans who would like to share their opinions with other fans during the show.  You can now visit TNAMecca to do exactly that in the comments section below each and every Tuesday afternoon at 12PM EST. We feel that Tuesday nights will be a must-watch night of television and we're confident that TNAMecca will be the place to be for real wrestling fans. So make sure you join us every Tuesday afternoon at 12PM EST for our live Impact discussion.

Promote It!

2016 is the year that TNA can really get things rolling in the right direction for the company. An aspect that I personally enjoy about TNA's partnership with Pop TV is how invested Pop seems to be in TNA already. We all thought TNA would be finishing out the year with Destination America, but when their run ended suddenly, things became unclear. To our surprise, Pop had scheduled the "Best of Impact 2015" episodes to air in TNA's new time slot come the new year. The fact that Pop stepped in to do this for TNA says a lot. It gives TNA time to introduce the product to the regular Pop TV viewers and to bring the fans that had not been able to watch TNA at all in 2015 up to speed. In addition to that, Pop has decided to air a new show, "This Is Impact", to kick off the new year.

TNA Randomania - Dec 25, 2015

It was just a few days ago when the rumors began that Maria Kanellis and her husband Mike Bennett, whose Ring of Honor contracts expired recently, were telling people that they are TNA-bound this January, and will presumably make their TNA debuts on January 5th. Since then, a couple of wrestling sites have reported that the duo has indeed signed a contract with TNA so I think it's safe to say that it's almost a certainty. Personally, I'm in favor of this addition to the Impact Wrestling roster because I've always felt that it was simply a matter of time before Bennett made his way to the mainstream.

TNAMecca Poll #3 - Dec 26, 2015

TNA often reaches out to their fans for feedback so we thought it'd be fun to give our members an opportunity to tell Dixie Carter and TNA what they'd like to see via our weekly polls. We believe that the our members represent the core diehard TNA fan who's watched and supported the company for much of the last decade-plus. So with that in mind, every week, we will create a brand new poll that features a scenario that's relevant to the current landscape in TNA. This is TNAMecca Poll #3 and it will end at 12:00PM EST on Saturday, January 2nd. If you would like to contribute questions for future polls please do so in the comments section below.

Four Things I Want to See in 2016

In some ways it's hard to believe that 2016 is finally almost here.  The holiday season usually seems to fly by but for TNA fans, time has been crawling at a painstakingly snail-like pace since the PopTV deal was announced.  Now that the World Title Series has been paused until the final 3 matches happen on January 5th, we must wait for a couple more weeks until a new, LIVE show quenches our collective thirst.  Until nearly a week ago, we assumed we would get 2 more Destination America episodes or recap shows to cap off their agreement.  Then, it seemed like they were scrapped.  Now we know that those 2 remaining episodes will air on PopTV as "Impact, Best of 2015" shows and serve as an introduction for a new and/or returning audience to the current product.  This is a very smart strategy to have these two lead-in type shows on a new network proceeding their big January 5th debut.  The Destination America relationship obviously went sour near the end of their deal and it's interesting that neither TNA or D.A. have said a word about each other since Wednesday.  It's the silent parting that speaks volumes.  Good riddance to an ugly 2015 on a channel that, in retrospect, was not a good fit for Impact Wrestling. So looking into the New Year on PopTV, I have 4 basic requests.  They are all feasible and realistic, but will require long-term planning and change.  So here they are:

TNA Randomania - Dec 14, 2015

- We are just a few weeks away from the Impact Wrestling premiere on Pop and much of the discussion on TNAMecca and elsewhere has been about potential new signings. As much as I am in favor of TNA bringing in new talents to freshen things up, it's also important to make sure the talents currently on the roster are used properly. Coming off the World Title Series, the challenge for the creative team will be to make sure that wrestlers kick off the new year with a purpose, particularly those who aren't champions. Although many wrestlers on the roster seemed to lack focus throughout the year, one of the positives of the WTS has been TNA's ability to give some of them a chance to enter the new year with a little bit of momentum. To me, the one who most benefited from the WTS is Robbie E. Even though he was unable to advance past group play, Robbie showed a competitive side to him in his matches against Matt Hardy, Davey Richards, and Eddie Edwards, and seems primed for a nice push in 2016. More importantly, he's begun to shed the party boy image but it will take a concerted effort by the writers to complete his transformation. Let's hope they're up to the task.

PopTV Needs to be TNA's Permanent Home

Hello? Can you hear me? Ok ok, this is not an Adele song... although I would highly suggest buying her new album because it is amazing. I'm here to talk about the new PopTV deal for TNA. In fairness, the renewed optimism I've seen in recent weeks since the big announcement happened does seem a bit like deja vu. Although one big difference is that most of our TNAMecca commenters in the U.S. have this channel as opposed to last year when many people complained that they did not have Destination America on their current lineup or flat out did not have access to it at all. In fact, I can only think of 4-5 of us that have expressed concern over our current cable or satellite providers not offering PopTV. As most of you know, I am one of those few. It's a bit surreal for me to be in this position after watching others go through the same thing last year, and I will address that in a bit. However, despite my personal challenge, as the title of this POV declares, this move to PopTV needs to be "THE MOVE" for Impact Wrestling. We cannot be talking about another new TV deal at the end of next year. The hot potato game needs to be over. PopTV is the appropriate place for TNA to grow. It just feels right and all the proper elements are in place for this to be a beautiful, thriving partnership between TNA and PopTV.

TNAMecca Exclusive: Q&A with Ethan Carter III

Recently, we had the opportunity to ask Ethan Carter III some questions about his injunction on TNA and Matt Hardy, as well as the World Title Series. Below is our exchange:

One Tag Team A Division Does Not Make

One of my favorite topics of discussion that regularly takes place in the TNAMecca comments section is the potential new talents that TNA should sign or bring in on a pay-per-appearance basis, and there's certainly been no lack of those discussions since the day TNA and Pop announced their television deal - a deal that will officially kick off on Tuesday, January 5th live from Bethlehem, PA. And while TNA execs are putting the finishing touches on their roster, the fans here and on social media are spending much of their time speculating on which new talents we could see return or debut on January 5th.  I've seen many names mentioned as potential signings but I strongly feel that one division currently needs an influx of new blood and that's the Tag Team Division. I think it's imperative that TNA focuses on rebuilding the division and it needs to start on the night of their Pop premiere.

TNA Randomania - Nov 24, 2015

It's been several days since the announcement of the TV deal with Pop and now that the excitement has settled down a bit, I wanted to take a moment to discuss the biggest pro of this deal, and that's Pop's reach nationally compared to Destination America's. Pop reaches 80+ million households and by March of 2016, the network will be available in approximately 85 million homes. DestAm's reach is approximately 57 million households - a difference of approximately 25 million homes. But it's important to note that the difference is much bigger, and I'll tell you why. Pop is part of your basic cable package so you either have the channel or you don't. 80+ million homes have and can access Pop.  DestAm, however, may be available in 57 million homes but it is accessible to many of whom who must opt to upgrade their cable package for an additional fee per month. Now the question becomes how many homes had access to Destination America, and although we're not privy to that sort of information, someone who works in the cable industry estimated that that number could be as low as 30 million. So essentially, you have a situation where Impact's reach could conceivably improve by 50 million homes on January 5th. That's a lot of viewers.

TNA to Air Impact Wrestling on Pop in 2016!

Immediately following last night's Impact, TNA's social media accounts, including those of Dixie Carter and John Gaburick, went dark. TNA's official site went dark moments later, however, a countdown clock began and set for early this morning. What could this countdown mean and what was the significance of the blackout on Twitter and Facebook? Well, we can now report that TNA has agreed to a deal with Pop to air Impact in 2016 with the premiere airing live on Tuesday, January 5th. Click here to read the full press release by Pop.

Welcome to the Off-Season

It's been a while since you've heard from me.  I won't make any apologies for my absence because some of it was out of my control (without boring you with unnecessary details).  Some of it, however, was within my control and, like I mentioned recently in the comments section, I simply have not been inspired enough by TNA to write a column.  We are in the middle of a long, drawn-out World Title Series that was taped back in July of this year.  When you have 5 months of programming in the can that has been slowly released week after week, emanating from the same old Impact Zone, it does naturally cause some apathy from the loyal fan base.  There is no way to sugarcoat it.  I'm not going to bullshit you because that is not my style.  We are now in the pro-wrestling version of an off-season for Impact Wrestling.  Yes, there are new episodes being shown on a weekly basis.  Yes, in some ways this big tourney is innovative and showcases good to above average wrestling matches.  That being said, you can't honestly tell me that TNA is in a great spot right now.  The future is promising for days ahead when the India and U.K. shows are filmed, but right now this is a low-point that I have not personally witnessed as a TNA fan.  Some of you will bristle as you read those words but welcome to reality.  You can't just make up some fictitious parallel universe about the current affairs of TNA that would paint the picture that everything is rainbows, sunshine and puppy dogs.  Like I said, there are much better times to come but for the first time in a long time, watching Impact has slid down on my priority list of entertainment options.

I hope everyone has enjoyed another fun Wednesday Championship Wrestling, I know I did, I mean I'm still buzzing over my top 3 matches, Balor vs Crews, AJ vs Cole vs O'Reilly and Davey vs Eddie and constantly shifting the top 3 around with each viewing.

Randomania - Oct 27, 2015

- Before I begin, I'd like to discuss something that I feel passionate about and that's the TJ Perkins/Manik situation. Although I have said in the past that I believe it's a work or part of an angle, I have it on good authority that it is not. TNA are legitimately insisting that TJ Perkins put the mask back on, and are doing so against his wishes. I think this is a matter that's much more serious than some think so if you are a TJ Perkins fan, I would strongly encourage you to speak up and let TNA, and particularly Dixie Carter and John Gaburick, know where you stand. If you would like to see TJ Perkins lose the mask, let them know by tweeting the hashtag #AllWeWantIsTJP to @TNADixie and @JohnGaburick. Again, I don't want to say too much but if you would like to see TJ Perkins in TNA without the mask, make sure you speak up. TJP is a phenomenal young talent and it's time that he was given an opportunity to reach his enormous potential...as himself. It's important to let Dixie Carter and John Gaburick know how you feel. Not just once. Or twice. Or three times. But until they finally get the message that we want TJP.

Randomania - Oct 21, 2015

I originally intended to share with you my thoughts, this week, on Week 2 of the World Title Series, as well as tonight's Week 3 events, but I've decided to instead discuss a matter that has absolutely infuriated me. Late Tuesday evening, TNA announced that they would be airing the main event from Bound for Glory on tonight's Impact. One could argue that it's a good idea simply because the World Title Series was born from the events of October 4th, 2015. However, I'm not that one...because I already watched the main event...live...and I paid $50 to do so. I have absolutely no desire to watch it again...for free. And quite frankly, I'd rather watch matches that I haven't watched before, which is ultimately why I tune in to Impact on Wednesday nights.

The Other Side of the Squared Circle - Oct 14, 2015

Ding Ding! There's the bell and I guess it is time to begin another edition of The Other Side of the Squared Circle, where we love Pro wrestling, more then the New Day rocks. Now those of you that enjoy the column I want to apologize about the lack of one last week. Due to some technical difficulties that I won't bore you with, I did not see Impact and therefore I felt it would be unfair for me to judge the show without having actually seen the product. Anyway, enough about last week and let's get started with this week.

Impact Post-Show Discussion for Oct 14, 2015

Many wrestling fans enjoy participating in fun discussions during Impact every week, whether it's on social media or wrestling sites. However, it's getting increasingly harder to find places where TNA fans can safely express their opinions on Impact without having to deal with the trolling of the anti-TNA crowd or the smarks who insist on taking the fun out of pro wrestling. For this reason, we felt it was important to make TNAMecca available to our readers and any TNA fans who would like to share their opinions with other fans during the show.  You can now visit TNAMecca to do exactly that in the comments section below each and every Wednesday night at 7:30PM EST. We feel that Wednesday nights will be a must-watch night of television and we're confident that TNAMecca will be the place to be for real wrestling fans. So make sure you join us every Wednesday night at 7:30PM EST for our live Impact discussion.

TNA Wednesday Randomania - Oct 14, 2015

- The World Title Series officially kicked off last week and I'm happy to report that Week 1 could not have gone better, under the circumstances. It wasn't an ideal start but like any TNA decision or concept in the last few months, it is important to take into account much of what the company has had to deal with. So with that mind, the WTS was executed as well as I could have imagined going in. Some will accuse me of making excuses and although that would be a fair assessment, it's the reality of the situation. TNA is currently not operating under the best of circumstances, with so many outside distractions, so the fact that they were able to pull off the taping of a 32-man World Cup-style tournament, minus a few matches, and its execution on television is quite impressive. By no means do I believe this tournament will be flawless, but based on what I saw in Week 1, TNA have the right idea.

TNA Wednesday Randomania - Oct 7, 2015

- This week, I'd like to focus on the world title situation that has every TNA fan seemingly talking about two days later, which I imagine is a strong indication that the company ultimately made the right decision to put the belt on Matt Hardy in the manner that they did. I was initially uncertain about the decision simply because I wasn't a fan of the writers taking the belt off Ethan Carter III, the company's hottest young star, and putting it around the waist of Matt Hardy, a likable enough veteran who didn't quite earn his spot into the main event at Bound for Glory. But therein lies the brilliance of this decision. Many TNA fans were uneasy about the decision by the company to, one, add Matt Hardy to the main event and, two, make his brother the special guest referee. It simply never sat right with me and many others. And it's that feeling of discontent that the writers exploited when the very thing that we were so uneasy about materialized right before our very eyes. In a shocking turn of events, Matt Hardy became the TNA world heavyweight champion, and he did so in large part due to Jeff Hardy's actions against EC3. It was a screwjob. The Hardys screwed EC3. And we were completely baffled by it all.

Savor the Glory

There is so much speculation and worry surrounding TNA currently at a time when they usually exude stability and have a previously announced schedule carrying them through the U.K. Tour of the following year.  While that annual U.K. Tour remains in place for 2016, there is a huge gap in TNA events (specifically Impact tapings) for the next 4 months.  There's a much-alluded-to India tour potentially sprinkled in that time frame which I imagine will be officially announced in the near future.  There are also multiple house shows on the docket, one of which has been converted into a ONO taping in New Orleans.  Otherwise, we don't really know what is happening with TNA's U.S. TV programming and, for whatever reason, they aren't going to say quite yet what the future holds in that regard.  With this "storm of the unknown" circling the TNA fan base, I've taken to heart the advice that Bob Ryder recently offered our community.  There are good things coming, so why should I waste time and energy worrying about when they may exactly come to fruition?  In the end, we have no control over the behind the scenes decisions anyway.  The day to day operations of Impact Wrestling are really none of my business.  I don't stress out about my favorite sports teams finances and management decisions so why should this be any different?  My attention is on the final product that I can watch on TV and I will continue to document my observations on that.  We do have assurance that the company will continue on and for now that's all I need to know.
