Return of the Hardcore

Blood. Weapons. Anarchy. Words I associate with hardcore wrestling and lately words that I have associated with TNA Wrestling. There was a time in which TNA had the baddest of the bad when it came to hardcore wrestling. Look no further than the Barbed Wire Massacre Match or the countless Monsters Balls, King of the Mountain Matches, Lethal Lockdowns, even Raven's Clockwork Orange House of Fun! However, it seemed in 2012-2013 the hardcore style was toned down. Sure we had the occasional street fight or something, but not to the extreme that TNA used to  go. Even our beloved hardcore monster Abyss was shackled to the Joseph Park character, taking him away from the hardcore style. Well, folks, fast forward to 2014 and it seems that the wild and crazy and frankly dangerous style has returned. Ever since the "Summer in the City" from New York, TNA seems to have gone back to it's roots, not only providing great in ring action in the six sided ring, but bringing back the extreme element of TNA's yesteryear and while it has gotten a great reaction from most, is it really the best thing for TNA to do right now. So, let's crawl through the broken tables, bent chairs, the barbed wire, the mud, the blood and the beer and look at the positives and negatives of TNA's return of the hardcore.

Post-IMPACT Discussion for Oct 29, 2014

One of my favorite activities after watching Impact is searching for forums in which fans can talk about the show and share with one another their thoughts.  However, it's getting increasingly harder to find venues where TNA fans can safely express their opinions on Impact without having to deal with the trolling of the anti-TNA crowd or the smarks who insist on taking the fun out of pro wrestling.

For this reason, we felt it was important to make TNAMecca available to our readers and any TNA fans who would like to discuss the show after watching it.  You can now visit TNAMecca immediately following Impact to do exactly that in the comments section below each and every week.  So please feel free to share with us your thoughts on tonight's IMPACT from the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA.  What did you think of the show?  What did you like or dislike?  Let us know.

TNA Tuesday Randomania - Oct 28, 2014

- This week, I'd like to begin with the infamous January 7th episode of Impact that everyone seems to be talking about without any sort of confirmation.  The closest to it is a report from a couple of months ago, in which the rumor was that Dixie Carter had a meeting with the talent during the last Impact tapings in New York City and shared with them her belief that Impact will be on TV on January 7th.  Since then, we seem to constantly mention the date as if it's set in stone.  We've also been anticipating an announcement for a TV deal by TNA and the longer we wait, the more anxious we become.  I think it's important to realize that an announcement can come at any time, even right before Thanksgiving or during the early days of December.  As long as a deal has been agreed to with a new network, it then becomes a matter of what TNA can or can not announce and when.  So the announcement of the TV deal is not a true indicator of whether or not TNA will return from hiatus on January 7th.  The true indicator, however, will be another announcement.  TNA will need to announce another set of Impact tapings soon in order to begin the process of promoting the shows and selling tickets for early January.  Typically, TNA announces tapings approximately six weeks in advance so if January 7th is the target date then an announcement should come by the third week of November.  TNA will most likely go live (or tape delayed) on January 7th and tape more episodes on the days following.  Of course, TNA could be planning to announce the TV deal and the Impact tapings at the same time.  Whichever the case may be, the next month or so will be telling.  If an announcement for Impact tapings does not come by Thanksgiving, then it's safe to assume that TNA will not return on January 7th.

TNA Wednesday Randomania - Oct 22, 2014

- This week, I'd like to begin with the current TNA product; the television product, which is ultimately how one should evaluate a wrestling promotion's status and not the behind the scenes happenings, most of which we, as fans, aren't privy to. I realize that there's quite a bit of anxiety amongst wrestling fans as we wait for an announcement on a TV deal to come but I feel that many of us have lost sight of the reason why we are passionate about TNA and pro wrestling in general: the television show. And it's a shame because at a time when there's so much uncertainty, much of it magnified by the dirtsheets, TNA have managed to produce some of the best episodes of Impact in their entire history.  I can't remember the last time we have been treated to the sort of quality wrestling that we are right now and have been since Slammiversary. That's four months, folks. I'll go out on a limb and say that we've watched more quality matches in the last four months than we have in the last five years. You might think I'm reaching but I defy you to recall the top matches during the Hogan/Bischoff and Prichard eras and tell me I'm wrong.  You, undoubtedly, will find the occasional gem such as the Beer Money and Motor City Machine Guns tag title series or the AJ Styles vs Christopher Daniels Last Man Standing match but overall, the matches were not as consistently good as they are right now.  Simply put, Impact is the best wrestling show on television in the United States. But you'd never know it because most wrestling sites act as if it's all for naught; as if the recent tag title series meant nothing because "it all feels so pointless" until TNA announces a new TV deal. This is the narrative that wrestling sites want to feed wrestling fans in order to invalidate the current product. It makes you wonder...why are they downplaying TNA's product when the same sites, just a few months ago, were pleading with the company to give us more wrestling? Why exactly is that?

Tyrus Has A Place On The TNA Roster

Disclaimer: Oh boy I think to a lot of people on the site, this write up has been a long time coming and frankly it has been. This write up has essentially been 14 months in the making so let’s get started. In this write up, I will give a little explanation about my writing style to those that have never read my work before as well as talk about the guy in the blog’s headline: EC3’s newest bodyguard Tyrus.

TNA Wednesday Randomania - Oct 15, 2014

- This week, I think it's important to begin with a hard truth about TNA and their current status. Before I proceed, however, I think I should point out that I genuinely believe that TNA will announce a new TV deal at some point this year, and they will begin anew in 2015 on a new network. With that said, I feel like many TNA fans don't want to accept the fact that the company as we know it might not exist, come this January. I say this simply because I'm sensing that TNA is currently going through a major transition behind the scenes, one in which would ultimately transform several aspects of the company.  I can't say for sure which but I have a feeling the biggest change, other than any potential branding changes, will be the Impact Wrestling roster.  There is reason to believe that much of the roster are currently free agents or soon-to-be before the end of the year.  Being that TNA is currently on hiatus, they will likely opt to not re-sign any of them at least until a TV deal is announced.  Once that happens, I'm sure negotiations with talents will pick up again just in time for the premiere on the new network, presumably on January 7th.  This, however, could backfire on TNA, especially as it relates to talents who might conceivably sign a deal with another network in the meantime. The fact remains that wrestlers who are free agents need to work and they will find it wherever they can. We've already seen Bully Ray tease working for another promotion in recent days, and previously, Kurt Angle spoke on a contract that he was close to signing.  I can only speculate on which wrestlers are currently free agents and which ones will either choose to re-sign with TNA when the time comes or seek employment elsewhere.  I simply do not know.  I do know this, however...there's a strong possibility that the roster could look much different in January.

Pick 'em League: Season 2 Round Up

Last nights historic Bound For Glory from Tokyo, Japan capped off the second season of TNAMecca's Pick 'em League. While the season may not have had as many events as we'd hoped, it still had bragging rights and a $20 Gift Certificate for ShopTNA up for grabs, making Bound For Glory an event where everyone wanted to perform a clean sweep of picks. Now that the dust has settled from last night, lets look at the breakdown and see how the league picked Bound For Glory.

Sad News for British Bootcamp's Kris Travis

With less than a week to go until Challenge TV air the first of British Bootcamp Season 2's audition episodes, fans were left dumbstruck by the sad news announced by Bootcamp hopeful Kris Travis on Twitter two days ago.  After being diagnosed with cancer a month ago, Travis revealed that he has had an operation to remove a tumour and part of his stomach and is undergoing 18 weeks of chemotherapy to further battle the cancer.

Plot Points: Summer In The City

As we approach the Bound for Glory PPV, it's time to take a look back at TNA's successful Summer in the City. Since taking up temporary residence in New York City for the past couple of months, TNA Impact has become must-see TV for any wrestling fan! The in-ring action has been top-notch, as usual (and there's been plenty of it!), and the storylines have really shined. Here are the five plots that have me glued to my TV every week:

TNA Wednesday Randomania - Oct 8, 2014

- More often than not, I begin Randomania with some sort of behind the scenes rumor or news story but this week I will focus on one of the most anticipated matches of the year, tonight's Full Metal Mayhem.  Some, mainly those within TNA, have called it the Match of the Year. That's high praise if you consider some of the matches we've watched in recent months, including every match in the tag title series. Every match in the series, each one topping the one before it, has been fantastic and if this trend continues, how does tonight's match top the Ladder match, which many have already proclaimed the Match of the Year.  How exactly do the Wolves, the Hardys, and Team 3D top that match? I don't know but I'm downright giddy just thinking about it. If ever there was a must-see match, a match that will have wrestling fans all over the world chanting "holy shit", it's tonight's Full Metal Mayhem. The Wolves vs The Hardys vs Team 3D in Full Metal Mayhem for the TNA tag team championships. It doesn't get any better than this, folks.

Wreaking HAVOK!

Well, we have a new KnockOuts Champion my friends.  Her name is Havok and she has burst onto the women's scene in TNA like we've rarely seen before.  The comparisons to Awesome Kong are obvious and logical but I contend that Havok possesses a unique, bold persona and look that is not necessarily "like someone else".  Yes, she is a bigger woman that is filling that much needed monster-heel role for TNA, but she's doing it in a way that others like Lei'D Tapa and Alpha Female simply could not.  She has prominent sex appeal and power that comes across as seductive to viewers at times.  Couple those dominatrix-like attributes with a vicious mean streak that cannot be ignored and you have one remarkable female.  She is also seasoned and wields the wrestling skills that are required to be a champion.  However, I don't think many people really thought that she would capture the KnockOuts Title this quickly and easily.  So now that she has, where do things go from here?  Let's examine the possibilities as the KnockOuts Division has now changed direction significantly.

TNA Wednesday Randomania - Oct 1, 2014

- This week, I'd like to begin with the latest on this year's Bound for Glory.  TNA announced the line-up earlier this week and suffice it to say, I was underwhelmed.  I was not surprised, however.  According to Bob Ryder, this was the best TNA could do under the circumstances and quite frankly, I'm sympathetic to them. Nobody knows for sure what those circumstances are but I imagine much of it has to do with the fact that the company was forced to tape episodes of Impact well into November. This left them with very few options for BFG that didn't include giving away spoilers. Personally, I'm not too thrilled by the BFG line-up but I'm also sympathetic to TNA's less than ideal situation.  I believe they're doing the best they can with the resources they have and it's something as fans we must accept. TNA is currently under an enormous amount of pressure and until a new television deal is finalized, the behind the scenes issues will continue to have a stranglehold on the company.  For this reason, this year's Bound for Glory is not a top priority. And I'm fine with that...because I fully understand that the light at the end of this tunnel is a new TV deal that will secure a spot on one network's line-up for Impact Wrestling in January. That is the ultimate prize.
