TNA Thursday Randomania - Jul 31, 2014

- If you're a TNA fan, it's been a trying few days due to the rumors regarding TNA's television deal with SpikeTV.  While many, who'd like to see TNA go under, have jumped at the opportunity to scream their joy from the rooftops, I'm happy to see that most wrestling fans have taken a wait and see approach.  The fact remains that the rumors are unsubstantiated.  Even the sites who reported the rumor that SpikeTV has decided not to renew Impact won't stand behind their reports completely, and have even begun to backtrack a bit in recent days.  It's actually quite embarrassing, honestly.  Let me break it down for you, folks...nobody knows for sure how negotiations between TNA and SpikeTV will end or if they have ended.  I can assure you, if any wrestling site had a real scoop, it'd be plastered all over their front page as breaking news...in bright flashing neon colors.  We do, however, know that SpikeTV and TNA are currently in on-going negotiations.  That's the only thing we know to be true at this time so please take anything you read on the dirtsheets with a grain of salt.  We will all know soon enough what the future holds for TNA so hang in there.

TNA Signs Former Army Sergeant!

TNA announced this evening that they have signed Chris Melendez, a former Army Sergeant to a multi-year contract. He will be making his official TNA debut at the Impact tapings in NYC next week. Apparently Melendez has been training at Team 3D Academy in Florida for the last couple of years. This is an interesting signing because TNA are thinking outside the box here. I'm very intrigued by this development and am interested to see this young man's wrestling journey begin. Click here to read the full press release.

The Great Muta's Revenge

I've commented quite a bit recently on The Great Muta's involvement with TNA, but I don't think a lot of fans realized how stunning it would be until this last episode of IMPACT aired.  What a rare opportunity it is to have a Japanese legend of his stature on TNA's flagship TV show.  I felt like the segment with Muta (and Yasu), James Storm and Sanada was the show stealer last Thursday.  The Master of the Mist had such a grand entrance with his flashy wardrobe and 2 layers of masks.  The New York crowd was respectful and seemed to be in awe by what kind of presence The Great Muta exuded.  Even if you're a younger wrestling fan that never watched him in his younger days, it's not difficult to sense the prestige that Muta possesses.  The most impressive part of him appearing on the show was the fantastic way that he put over Sanada in a VERY effective heel turn.  This was all executed in a way that makes James Storm and Sanada automatically elevated heading into Bound For Glory in Tokyo.

Welcome to Saturday Night Chat on TNAMecca!  Although we aren't an open forum where members can start their own threads, our sense of community spirit is what sets us apart from other wrestling sites so we thought it'd be fun to give our members the ability to dictate the discussion for one night a week.  Anything goes in Saturday Night Chat but we do ask that all topics remain TNA-related and stay on topic. You can also discuss any rumors from any source regardless of how ludicrous they might sound.  However, the same etiquette rules that apply to our comments section in general also will apply here, including our policy on spoilers.

A New Option

It’s always good to have options. Thus the case of Austin Aries who yet again recently won the X Division Title with the option to cash it in to for a chance to win the World Heavyweight Title against Bobby Lashley. As most of you know this isn’t Aries' first time going down this road. In fact in 2012 Aries was the first ever to cash in the X Division Title at a chance for the World Title. Not only did he cash it in but he won against Bobby Roode. Will he do it again this time against Lashley? We will find out very soon.

Tajiri to Appear at Impact Tapings in August!

Dixie Carter announced today that former ECW wrestler and current Wrestle-1 talent, Tajiri will be appearing at the Impact tapings in New York City in early August. This had been rumored but it's nice to finally get confirmation from TNA. Tajiri is still rather good in the ring so it'll be great to see him inside the six-sided ring for the first time. I'm curious to see if he gets involved in the James Storm/Sanada angle. Click here for the full press release.

Post-IMPACT Discussion for Jul 24, 2014

One of my favorite activities after watching Impact is searching for forums in which fans can talk about the show and share with one another their thoughts.  However, it's getting increasingly harder to find venues where TNA fans can safely express their opinions on Impact without having to deal with the trolling of the anti-TNA crowd or the smarks who insist on taking the fun out of pro wrestling.

For this reason, we felt it was important to make TNAMecca available to our readers and any TNA fans who would like to discuss the show after watching it.  You can now visit TNAMecca immediately following Impact to do exactly that in the comments section below each and every week.  So please feel free to share with us your thoughts on tonight's historic episode from the Manhattan Center in New York City.  What did you think of the show?  What did you like or dislike?  Let us know.

TNA Thursday Randomania - Jul 24, 2014

- I think it's safe to say that last week's Impact was a huge success from an entertainment standpoint.  I can't remember the last time I had so much fun watching a wrestling show.  At a time when so many in the internet wrestling community take wrestling much too seriously, here comes TNA with a fun-filled and wonderfully nostalgic two hours of television.  When TNA gets it right, they bring you back to your childhood when pro wrestling was appreciated for its entertainment value and not judged by how long a match lasts or which segment of the show the world champion appears in.  Unfortunately, the latter was created by "journalists" in the industry who felt they needed to manufacture an environment in which they were seen as superior than the common fan in order to convince them to pay for their work.  The reality is that these so-called wrestling journalists were wrestling fans, just like you and I, with the same credentials but they set out to change the way we all watch wrestling in order to make a profit.  Unfortunately, the result is what we see today...so many wrestling fans who care more about show formats than simply sitting back and enjoying a wrestling show.  Pro wrestling is entertainment, folks,  always has been.  And luckily, we have a company in TNA that believes in making wrestling fun, and last week, TNA made wrestling fun again.

TNA Signs Talents to New Deals

John Gaburick announced today on his official Twitter account that TNA has signed Sanada to a new deal, as well as re-signed Samuel Shaw and Brooke. This is good news as I feel that they all have a bright future in TNA and still have yet to reach their full potential.  I'm particularly excited about Sanada because I believe that he can be a star if TNA can somehow find the role that best fits him.  He's currently involved in an angle with James Storm so the company is definitely planning to push him beyond the X Division. What a Delicious Appetizer!

Everyone is in agreement that last night was a high-quality IMPACT in New York City.  There's no doubt about that (unless you're just a complete troll or TNA hater that is).  The crowd was awesome.  The wrestling was great.  The return of the six-sided ring was fantastic.  The show literally flew by because the content was history-making and impressive.  Thankfully this is only the beginning; a delicious appetizer, if you will.  It's as if fans are being treated to a lovely 12-course meal at a fancy eatery in Paris.  So this first course was an enjoyable hors d'oeuvre that has essentially whet our appetite for more awesomeness to consume.  The menu of NYC episodes will provide course after course of delightful entertainment for the next 11 weeks until we finally get our dessert and coffee before heading to Tokyo at Bound For Glory.  What really happened last night though?  Was it a reboot?  Was it a revitalization?  Or..... were others, who don't usually watch TNA, just simply let in on the secret that we've all known for a long while?

Hardcore Justice to be Taped at August 5th Tapings in NYC!

TNA announced this afternoon that Hardcore Justice will be taped at the Grand Ballroom of the Manhattan Center in New York City on Tuesday, August 5th. After the tone that TNA set with last night's show, a hardcore-themed show in NYC will be a must-watch event. TNA have been fairly hardcore the last few weeks so it'll be interesting to see how they try to top themselves with this year's Hardcore Justice.

TNA Thursday Randomania - Jul 17, 2014

- This week, I'd like begin with the much-anticipated return of the six-sided ring.  I won't discuss the pros or cons because I feel that everyone's had their say by now and I'd rather not beat a dead horse.  Everyone who reads my Randomania on a regular basis knows where I stand on that issue.  I'd rather describe the emotions that came over me when I attended the June 25th Impact tapings in New York City.  Knowing that TNA would be debuting the new six-sided ring with the Impact Wrestling colors at this particular show, I promised myself that I'd take a moment to truly take it all in when I walked into the Ballroom.  And I did.  I sat in my seat and I observed.  Luckily, I was in the front row so I got a nice close look.  What I saw was a ring that brought back so many amazing memories.  But more importantly, I saw a ring with a promising future.  Because this beautiful ring before me did not just represent the past but it also represented the next chapter in TNA's storied history.  The new ring, the one I saw in New York City, was a fitting compromise of the old school years and the new era that is upon us.  I even got a little emotional for a brief moment because I knew that I had just experienced something special.  It was a moment that will stay with me for a very long time.  Ten years from now, I might not remember everything that happened on July 25th, 2014...but I will remember that moment.

#BritishBootcamp2: Maintaining the Momentum

If you need an example of the positive power of social media in modern day professional wrestling, then you need look no further than the announcement made by TNA at London's Film and Comic Con this past Saturday.  ChallengeTV had already revealed that a second season of British Bootcamp was going to be filmed this Autumn, but it was the announcement from Jeremy Borash that the competitors had not yet been chosen that had people buzzing and #BritishBootcamp2 trending on Twitter.

Vince Russo's Official Statement: Consultant for TNA?

Earlier this year, PWInsider reported that Vince Russo is still employed by TNA as a consultant.  After months of speculation and denials, Vince Russo decided to finally put the issue to rest today with the following statement: "Recently, I accidentally sent an e-mail to a third-party that was not meant for their eyes. The e-mail concerned my current involvement with TNA Wrestling. TNA rendered my services as a consultant to work with their announce team of Mike Tenay and Taz. The condition from their side was that I kept it confidential between the two parties. As their employee, it was up to me to honor their wishes, so that’s what I intended to do. My integrity means everything to me, so I just hope you can understand and forgive. Peace."

Monster Team Player

At this point in Abyss' career it would be easy for him to rely on his past achievements, bask in his physical sacrifices, and rest on his tenure as one of the only remaining TNA originals.  However, he hasn't done that.  Instead, he's put over every wrestler he has faced or been teamed with for quite some time.  He doesn't have the kind of over-inflated ego that others (who have left the company) have exhibited in the past.  I know that some fans complain about Abyss "being old" and that's he's kind of "been there done that".  I respect that opinion, and I can see where that mindset would come from.  I contend, however, that when Abyss/Chris Parks is used correctly that he can be very effective in progressing the careers of the younger TNA superstars.  He knows his role within TNA, and it's fairly well known that he serves in an agent role backstage.  He could have gone to the WWE earlier in his career but chose to stay in TNA because he loves the company.  Those "team player" attributes and his undying loyalty are what make Abyss an important member of the TNA team.

British Bootcamp 2 Coming this Fall!

Dixie Carter announced this morning that British Bootcamp will be returning this Fall on ChallengeTV. This season, however, there will be 12 competitors vying for a TNA contract. In addition, the 3 runners-up will appear on TNA's UK Tour next year, which is a nice consolation prize. As we all know, Rockstar Spud was the winner of the first season and based on his enormous success, this season's Bootcamp should be must-watch.  According to TNA, they will have more details tomorrow at 12PM EST so make sure you check back for updates.

UPDATE: TNA announced today that the three judges for this season's British Bootcamp will be Al Snow, Gail Kim, and Samoa Joe. The competitors have not been chosen at this time but scouting will begin in two weeks when Samoa Joe visits the Progress Wrestling show, I believe, on July 27th. Progress is a strong-style UK promotion that features some of the best young talents such as Noam Dar and Dave Mastiff.  And lastly, according to TNA, British Bootcamp is open to announcers and referees as well.

TNA Thursday Randomania - Jul 10, 2014

- I'd like to begin with something this week that I feel hasn't gotten enough attention and that's the fact that TNA have pushed all the right buttons lately.  A company, that's often maligned for their poor decisions by their harshest critics, has seemingly turned that proverbial corner and may have found the formula that best works for them.  Firstly, it appears that TNA have a found a way in recent months to combat the constant flow of unsubstantiated reports from dirtsheets by ingeniously breaking their own news via their site or social media accounts.  No longer are wrestling sites reporting what appears to be good news and spinning it to fit their own agenda, as was the case with the initial reports that TNA would be renting the Manhattan Center to tape Impact.  Any objective wrestling fan could see how beneficial these tapings would be to TNA yet all the internet wrestling community focused on was TNA's apparent desperate move to impress SpikeTV.  Or the rumor that some talents would be upset that TNA are spending so much money on booking the Manhattan Center while cutting back on wrestlers' wages.  This, to me, was confirmation that there's a real anti-TNA agenda within some in the wrestling community and that includes some of the more prominent wrestling site owners and reporters.  Luckily, real wrestling fans can now get their news directly from TNA or from sites like this where the facts are reported...and not spun.

IMPACT in Japan Post-BFG?

So, I think I may be the first person to consider this?  If not, tell me so.  Not that I want the credit but I think my brain may have stumbled onto something here.  Is TNA planning on taping episodes of IMPACT in Japan after Bound For Glory?  If so, that would be HUGE!  I would consider it to be as big, if not bigger than the actual PPV itself in some respects.  Not everyone can pony up $50 or more to see a "Big 4" PPV, but most people that are objective wrestling fans will want to see what's going on with TNA directly after BFG.  So why not keep the party going in Japan and let the entire IMPACT audience see what TNA in Japan looks like?  Yes, there's the issue of traveling the roster around in Japan (or simply the cost of staying in Tokyo) and all the logistical elements involved there.  I definitely realize that it may seem like an odd fit in some ways to shoot IMPACT episodes in The Land of The Rising Sun.  But is it that far fetched and unlikely?  In my opinion, it is not.  So let's explore the possibility and all the factors involved.

Sanada Signs Contract with TNA

According to news coming out of Tokyo, Wrestle-1's Sanada has apparently signed a contract with TNA so it appears that he will be remaining with the company a little while longer.  Sanada had been on loan from Wrestle-1 since March.  There seems to be conflicting reports on how long Sanada's TNA contract is so we won't speculate but we do know that he will be working for both companies for the foreseeable future. Judging by a recent incident between Sanada and James Storm on Impact, it might appear that TNA has an angle planned for him going forward.  It might also explain the new look that Sanada is sporting above.

Thank You Bethlehem, PA!

TNA fans have been very complementary of the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania crowds at the Sands Events Center and rightfully so.  Last night was a fantastic audience again as they got very vocal and provided a boost of energy for the entire show.  The "TNA! TNA! TNA!" and "WE WANT TABLES!" chants were awesome to hear.  I, for one, was very concerned about how ticket sales were looking prior to these shows being taped and I'm happy to say that I have been pleasantly surprised.  Drawing 1,000 or so fans for both nights should be a considered a success, especially because the fans actually knew the product and were not smarky.  Yes, the NYC shows have been getting most of the attention and adulation of the wrestling world (and rightfully so), as far as TNA is concerned, but I felt it necessary to share some thoughts about this Bethlehem crowd and how the tapings there may serve as a blueprint for TNA road shows going forward.

Kurt Angle Renders TV Title Inactive!

TNA announced this morning that the new Executive Director of TNA Wrestling, Kurt Angle, has decided to render the TV title inactive, thus removing it completely from the picture.  Finally! We've been wondering what will happen with the TV title for almost a year.  I like that it was Angle who made the decision to end the charade that was the Legends-Global-Television title as it gives his reign a sense of legitimacy right off the bat. Click here to read the full press release including Angle's official statement.

TNA Thursday Randomania - Jul 3, 2014

- Tonight's episode of Impact will be the first with Kurt Angle in charge of wrestling operations so I'm curious to see whether or not he will make any changes.  Last week, as his first acts as the new Executive in charge, he booked the Bobby Lashley vs Eric Young rematch for tonight, and reinstated Bobby Roode.  Interestingly enough, Angle's feud late last year with Roode was one of the most vicious in recent years so to me, it was a strong indication that he will be unbiased in his decisions.  This is one of many reasons why I feel that Kurt Angle is the ideal candidate for the position of general manager.  The biggest reason, however, why this is a brilliant decision by TNA is he will now be featured on Impact regularly as opposed to getting paid to sit at home while he recovers from serious knee surgery until his contract expires.  He also represents a new era in TNA which will presumably feature more wrestling.

TNA's Eventful Week: A Retrospective

It's been quite an eventful week for TNA and its fans with numerous announcements and happenings so I thought I'd do a recap and give my brief thoughts since we didn't get a chance to discuss them.  Firstly, Dixie Carter and The Great Muta announced during a press conference last week that this year's Bound for Glory will take place in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday, October 12th.  This is huge news.  TNA are taking a risk but one that's worth taking because the reward is monumental.  I'm sure TNA will be relying on Muta quite a bit with promotions so I'm confident that ticket sales will not be an issue.  However, whether or not the PPV airs live in the United States is still a concern so hopefully we'll hear something soon about that.
