AJ Styles' Free Agency. It's Not a Work.

I've maintained, for several weeks, that the AJ Styles contract story is a work.  Through various rumors and reports, I managed to stick to my guns.  Even after Styles' official statement, I refused to believe otherwise.  It's a work, I kept telling myself.  Today's news hit me like a ton of bricks, forcing me to finally reassess my beliefs; forcing me to realize that AJ Styles is a free agent.  I've now officially accepted the fact that it's not a work.  Folks, TNA and AJ Styles have parted ways.

It's a tough pill to swallow simply because I'm a huge fan of Styles' and I'm genuinely heartbroken.  The last time I felt this way, Alex Shelley had opted not to re-sign with TNA.  It's not a good feeling.  But I don't blame TNA for this.  The company is finally acting fiscally responsible in order to sustain long term success.  They can not afford to continue to pay him a salary that is essentially above his market value, if reports of his salary are correct.  It's just the reality of the situation.

But how much blame do I place on AJ Styles?  I can't begrudge a man trying to make a living.  Styles will do what's right for himself and his family.  With that said, part of me feels betrayed by him.  I can't help feeling this way but it's something that I can't control.  The realization that I might not see AJ Styles in TNA beyond the shows that have already been taped has hit me hard.  Of course, there's always a possibility that TNA and Styles will come to an agreement at some point but it doesn't make it any easier now.

I see some are still holding on to the hope that this is a work.  I respect your decision because I can relate and sympathize.  But the reality is that AJ Styles is no longer with TNA.  He will be wrestling for Ring of Honor on January 4th and appearing on their television show.  Like I said, a tough pill to swallow.
